In the story Baby Bear Sees Blue the author uses bright colors to capture the child’s attention unlike This Is Not My Hat. In this picture book the bear is very explorative fun for any young child to read. It isn’t one of the greatest story lines but it isn’t the worst either. It is perfect for a child learning his or her colors. Nature is the motif in this story and the bright colors are for children to understand and engage. The words flow so it has a nice rhyming pattern. I give it a 3 at the most. Colors in nature. This book would work well in preschool ST--just the right amount of text, good illustrations, and incorporating color. I already have an activity in mind. Use pictures of the items mentioned; have the kids tell me what color Baby Bear sees; put them on the board in particular order so by the end they form the rainbow he sees. I think it will work.3/19/14 Used in bear theme. Did an activity: printed out un-colored items that bear sees. Then I had little squares of color in a brown bag. For each item, I would draw out colors until the kids told me I had the right one. Then I would put it up on the board next to its item. Worked pretty well and made a book I was "eh" about into a rather fun choice.
Best for 3-5 years old, vocabulary. Covers concepts.
