About book Babaarc (2014)

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta. I really enjoyed this book, it's an engaging quick read. I have always been in love with this time period. Give me Gatsby, lots and lots of Gatsby. Vera, a.k.a "Dollface" loves her some bad boys. As the ultimate flapper, Vera captures the hearts of two gangsters from competing gangs in roaring 20s Chicago. Nothing like a little drama to keep a girl on her toes. In the arms of said paramours, Vera gains entrée into a world filled with bootleg bourbon, speakeasies, Tommy guns and money to burn. The heady life she’s living is an illusion resting on a bedrock of crime and violence unlike anything the country has ever seen before. When the good times come to an end, Vera becomes entangled in everything from bootlegging to murder. Dollface is one of the best historical fiction novels I have ever read! This book literally had me on the edge of my seat and by the end of the day I had completed it. It portrayed the roller coaster life of a flapper named Vera who happened to be the love of two different guys from two rivaling gangs. The whole story was just amazing and it was not only the romantic part of it but I was pretty drawn to the problems of the gangs as well, which is really something in my opinion considering that I am a serious girly girl. Frankly the love triangle really trifled with my emotions and I was caught between the two men as well. I am sad about how the book ended, but I had to admit that Vera had it coming. I mean eventually her affair was going to be of everyone's knowledge and I knew it would be right when Dora found out. At that moment I knew Shep was done with her and Tony was practically dead. I predicted correctly. I must admit that I would have liked to have seen a bit more about what was going on between the gangs. Besides this and the ending I loved this book. But I really hated that ending! It tore me apart! I mean both of them died!! Again I can kinda see how it was inevitable, but that doesn't stop me from being sad about it. It makes me think if Shep was already just trying to off himself. I mean he already had killed Tony, so that competition was out of the way. Vera kept warning him to the extent that she followed him there so it's hard to believe that he couldn't believe her. All his friends were dead, his wife was a cheater, and he wasn't even sure if his own daughter was his. How many more reasons does this guy need to want to die and I doubt that he would commit suicide, for that wouldn't really look good. This was his chance to in a way die eithout other problems. That's just my opinion but who knows.
