I keep mulling this one over in my head, and I just cannot come up with a conclusion. I don't know what I think about this book. I don't know if I liked it or not.Ferreras shows great insight into a woman's mental life as he sketches out the character of 'B,' a girl who does not identify with her real name, Beauty. B is a late-twenties career woman who works in advertising under the Cruella deVille of bosses. A chubby Latina, she struggles with self-worth and throws herself into her work. Until she hears her boss talking in the bathroom about how she is too fat to promote.B is sucked into the world of escorts by a Russian CPA, a woman who insists B's weight is highly attractive to her male clients. So we see B transform as she realizes it's true, there are men who would pay just to rub her feet or sit next to her on a couch.My issues with this book are widespread. I don't like cursing, and it is scattered over nearly every page. B's transformation is almost too quick, and the storyline that evolves is a little too predictable.And yet, as a twenty-something career woman who also struggles with my weight, I identified with B nearly to a T. I was inspired to take care of my body better and realize that it is beautiful. And so, I have to conclude, that this book was worth my time. B as in Beauty is a valiant first effort in chicklit from a male author. B de Bella es un libro de esos en los que a medida que vas leyendo te vas sintiendo más y más identificada, no sé si tiene que ver que soy latina, no sé si es porque soy gordita o porque realmente sentí simpatía por la protagonista. Debo confesar que en un principio, al comenzar a leerlo, me sentí un poco insultada por como describía ser "gordita", pero ¡es totalmente cierto! La sociedad ha impuesto unos estándares muy altos casi dogmáticos, por no poderlos refutar, de que solo una persona "delgada" puede ser amada, querida, deseada, exitosa, triunfadora, entre otras cosas. Cuando es cuestión de actitud, como lo demuestra Bella en el libro, es un libro que toda mujer debería considerar leer, te recuerda que cada quien es hermoso a su manera. Su transformación fue como un renacer y quedé con ganas de saber más de ella. Definitivamente, mis respetos para Alberto Ferreras: de una historia tan sencilla sacó algo muy significativo y que dará valor a más de una. A lo mejor por ser tan emocional, como cualquier latino, es que me ha llegado tanto, pero podría leerlo muchas veces más. Está claro que es una lectura sencilla, sin mucha complicación.
