About book Auch Monster Haben Angst Im Dunkeln. Die Unbekannten Seelennöte Von Frankenstein, Vampiren Und Co. (2012)

I was looking forward to reading this book when I saw the cute and quirky cover and illustrations, but those were about the only things I ended up liking about it! A couple of stories were bearable and may have even wrenched a smile out of me, but the others were just filler and I found myself skipping the dullest parts (a sizeable chunk of the book). As someone else has already pointed out, the writing style stayed pretty much the same across every single story. The book would likely have been better if several writers had collaborated to bring a unique voice to each monster. Very, very cute compilation about the every day trials and tribulations of monsters, I am sure most of them you have never thought about or did you know that the chupacabra suffers from being reduced to this one tiny trait of sucking a goat once in a while and the teenage banshee cannot build lasting friendships since she announces people's deaths all the time? And don't get me started on the poor Ordinary Spider Man... Some of the chapters are more spot on than others, meaning some made me laugh my little tushy off while others created a too big meh-effect. The illustrations on the inside were not as good as the cover had me thinking they might be. Nevertheless, a good coffee table book, and worth checking out especially during Halloween reading month! The 10 best chapters in my humbled opinion were: Questioning Godzilla's Existence, His Fangs Just Aren't That into You, The Best Tears of Your Life, The Joy of Unicorns, Diet Hansel, Unsuccessful Monsters, Gremlin Owner's Manual, The Roommate of Dorian Gray, The New York Art Show Massacre, Kids Slay the Darnedest Things.

Cute, fluffy read. Some clever moments and lots of chuckles, though no outright guffaws.

Not laugh out loud funny, but pretty humorous. Really liked Dr. Van Helsing's notes.
