This massive missive about the Atlantic Ocean, her history, commerce, environmental impact, geology, purpose and her future, is very enjoyable. I listened to Simon Winchester narrate his own book and what a departure from my usual read this was. Have you ever wondered about the beginning and the end of the existence of the Atlantic? How about a curiosity about what is teaming under the gray waves as you fly over this vast expanse in a plane? Or did you ever wonder about the first attempts to lay down theTrans Atlantic cable? What about the first transatlantic ships and the experience of those who signed up to go? Time to get your sea legs on and hop aboard! Eh. Some of it was interesting, but it seemed more like the author was just stringing together stories that involved himself in some way - places he visited or adventures he had. And my geography knowledge isn't good enough for reading this in ebook format, where I can't flip to a map frequently. So, it took forever to read because I kept losing interest, stopping, then coming back to it weeks later.
