When it was released this comic was on my radar for some time, as an avid reader of the more European orientated comics of which Asterix has been one of my favorites from way back to my youth. In fact reading the classic Asterix tales these days I see still a lot of things I missed before probably due to growing older. And in truth Uderzo and Gosinny did write a classic series that is not easily surpassed. Currently one my favorite comic series is in the middle of its last publication due to the fact that the artist has chosen to enjoy his pension. As such I did enter the discussion of his series should be continued and how does one keep the same quality?? In the case of this new Asterix both the writer and artist are new and yet they keep the quality and expectation fullfilled. All the regular stuff passes by including the poor pirates that end up swimming as usual. This time Asterix & Obelix get involved in a Clanfeud in the Highlands, hence the Picts, that has also the usual Romeo & Julia aspect. And more important the reason of why the monster of Loch Ness is seen so rarely. It is certainly not a better book as those from the original writer and artist but it also does not fail in entertaining. I find this new book easily better than some of the solo-works by Uderzo who remained the sole original for some albums.Well worth your time and a welcome return for our Gaul friends and a promise for the future that there will be more to come. And that does pleases me a lot. The Gauls come to the aid of a frozen Scotsman, who wants to get home to his love. But the Romans, treacherous clansmen and the inevitable pirates are in his way. Now, I admit that my golden period for loving Asterix books was more than 20 years ago, and maybe I've changed, but I found this to be a big disappointment. The plot seemed even shallower than usual, the contemporary references were visible but opaque (at least to me), and the tropes that Goscinny and Uderzo featured subtly, almost as Easter Eggs, were layered on with a trowel here.Oh, and there was the Loch Ness Monster. Enough said.Rated PG for cartoon violence. 2/5

Sehr gut. Zeichnungen, Idee und Humor - alles in der Manier der guten, alten Asterixe.

Nicht so gut wie die klassischen Bände, aber auch weniger schlimm als befürchtet
