Assault with a Deadly Glue Gun was a cute, quick mystery that would probably make a great companion to Murder, She Wrote from the 80s on CBS. Anastasia, the protagonist, works for a woman's magazine and we meet her just after her husband has died leaving her deep in debt. Her problems quickly pile up, but the book stays light and fun because of the sarcastic wit (a personal favorite of mine) of Anastasia. This isn't a high quality book that will Challenge Your World View or anything like that, just brain candy. Which is exactly what it's described as, what I expected, and what it delivered. So, yes, it's a bit over the top with silly puns, ridiculous circumstances, and caricatures. But it was a good way to spend some free time the past few days. Wow this amateur sleuth has a lot of problems! If there were less then it might seem excessive writing but this author manages to completely overload her sleuth to the point of utter hilarity. I love the tongue-in-cheek humor throughout this book. So many obvious puns and jokes as well as plenty of hidden ones. I look forward to reading more in this series and also love the inspiring craft descriptions - great that they meet a variety of crafts. Not just another mystery book. The grandmothers do make me want to just shout at them though but they obviously just add to the fun and problems!
