Tender Morsels is dark fantasy story, a take off from the Grimm Brothers' Snow White & Rose Red. It is a rambling story with a lot of characters woven in and out of the story. At this point, the character appearances don't make any sense...I am only half-finished with the book. The story does reveal difficult subjects such as incest, rape and physical abuse. It is too bad that the author takes one of the protagonists into a "safe place" rather than healing from the violence inflicted on her. However, perhaps that is what she needed to heal. Thinking about it...don't we all need that to heal? The characters are vibrant, the language is flowing and lyrical and spins pictures in my head. Because of the topics involved, I would recommend this novel for high school and above. This one was really hard to read. I mean, once you get past the first half it gets better, but until then it's really hard to understand exactly what's happening. I totally get why so many people are upset about some of the content, it is really horrible in some places. Overall it was a good book, not sure if I would recommend it to anyone, but it is so damn confusing at some parts. It's like the author didn't think of the readers when she wrote the book. If you are thinking of reading this, have patience with the story and the characters, and my guess is that you will either think it's brilliant or just awful.
