This review kinda has some plot-ish spoilers. Beware. I thought that this book was pretty inspiring, and not just for those battling obesity. For instance, I learned a lot about how people deal with self discipline and restraint(something that greatly interests me) from this book. One problem I had with it though was that even though the main character is described as imperfect and unpopular, the author somehow managed to portray her as perfect. The plot was quite cliche in my opinion- the "imperfect" perfect character is judged by others, gets a boy, realizes that she has to change for love, and then everything gets better. Even though there were some flaws in the development of the characters (just an opinion, of course), I still enjoyed the book thoroughly and would recommend it as a fun read. (plus, the cover is just adorable!!) Great story! I love snarky Rosemary...she made me laugh out loud throughout this book. There are so many girls in the world today that can relate to this great protagonist and her journey to find her self-confidence. I absolutely love Kyle and wish that there were more guys out there that didn't mind a little insulation on a girl! He's so sweet. There are a lot of people who will not understand and may even criticize the way Supplee tells this story and the details of Rosemary's eating disorder, and I just want to point out...Rosemary already has an eating disorder...it's called "eating everything in sight all the time." I had a relative that would do the same thing. It's an addiction, and unless you've experienced it first hand, it's hard to understand why that person "just can't stop." Rosemary didn't go about her weight loss the right way, but the story was about finding the strength to have self-control and self-confidence. When she finally befriended Kay-Kay, she worked herself back to eating good portions. She did not develop a new eating disorder. Kay-Kay and Kyle helped her realize that she was great just as she was and that she didn't have to be 120 pounds to be loved. That is what this book was all about.
