About book Arena One Slaverunners PART ONE (2000)

This book I really can't decide what I think. I finished it which is something. I think my issue is certain scenes took way longer than they should. Most of the book was the car chase and then another chase. I found the arena idea interesting and then that seemed to last like a few minutes out of the whole book and really didn't make sense. I liked the characters, but I think before you kidnap a young girl we should have had a little more time with her to care about her. Also, the characters just seem to be thrown together as opposed to having any real development. Ben pops out of the road. Logan just saves them without every being talking to either of them before or us even getting a hint of a guard looking at her or anything. It just screamed unbelievable which kind of stinks because the whole world concept is pretty cool. I enjoyed the idea of it, but it ended up being far too descriptive for my taste. So I am worried about how many stars to give this it is between a 2-3 for me. It had a lot of potential and I guess I would say 3 just because I kind of want to know what the heck happens after all these darn chases. The one redeeming quality for me is the heroine. I loved her. She was strong in an unnatural way but who cares it was badass. I loved her logical thinking, her willingness to sacrifice herself for the ones she loves, and the way she was more of a strong character than any of the male characters in this book. Not bad but I just couldn't relate to the protagonist and I guess my perception of men/boys is just different. The author made them seem so clueless and stupid that it was just so unreal. The protagonist and the other characters were very one dimensional. The action parts were nice and moved the story along. The idea that two political parties causing so much separation that it leads to an apocalypse was interesting but not believable. Maybe because it wasn't thoroughly researched/thought out?
