This actually has promise as a readaloud - I just need to practice a little bit so I have some synonyms ready to go if the kids get confused by all the big vocabulary. (Oct 7 2014)This went well at Toddler Time - I didn't do it as a straight readaloud, more as a series of pictures to discuss. I engaged the kids by asking them what the doggie was doing, where he was, having them make the motions that he does (licking, barking, running, jumping), and more. They had fun and they were very good at understanding the story. On the letter M (for 'miserable') I made sure to pause and say, "the doggie is sad right now. Do you think he will still be sad at the end? No!!" with a big smile, so they knew that it was a happy story. This was the only book I read for my Apple theme week and I tied it into a cute 5-Little rhyme about apples in a pie. (Oct 9 2014) This week's library book bundle is Cake and Pie themed (which, of course me and my sweet tooth couldn't resist!). This was the first book from the bundle, and it's a winner. I loved the illustrations, which are bold and have a retro feel. I loved how cleverly the author included each letter of the alphabet in the tale of a dog attemping to sneak a taste of apple pie. My baby was very enthusiastic about the illustrations. There was a lot of arm flailing and excited shrieking while we read this one. :-) No complaints here!
