About book And I Shall Have Some Peace There: Trading In The Fast Lane For My Own Dirt Road (2011)

such a beautiful and BRAVE book. I read this when I was plotting my own escape-from-corporate-america-and-NYC and it helped and soothed and encouraged and warned and counseled me on my way. just picked it up again - (now I'm on the other side of the country, that life, and everything) - and my own book about doing so is coming out in february and i found an almost different book - this one cheered me and gave a definite Yes to starting again. one day I'll have a garden. and I'll pick Margaret's book (and her other newer titles) and let her show me how to make a garden.such a beautiful, brave and brilliant book. truly. This book is an interesting account of self-examination, and boasts an interesting contemporary writing style: like an informal blogger with incredibly intelligent references. Ultimately, not much happens in the account of the first two years of Roach's life in the country. If I take one thing from these pages, it's that knowing yourself, your needs and wants, and understanding your histories and how they shape your today, takes time. A long time. Roach has only begun to come into her own after two years in the country. Her tools of self-exploration include gardening, nature, animals, and cooking. For me, it's running. What would I do if I moved to the country, alone and free? This is the question Roach answered for herself. I'd be interested to see a follow up book in 10 or 20 years.

this book literally jumped into my hands a few days ago and demanded that I read it. I am grateful.

Three friends I mentioned this to, read it and hated it. Two loved it. Go Know. I loved it.

Loved the premise of this book but I couldn't get past Roche's disjointed writing style.

Not what I thought it would be. Can't say there's much to recommend about it.
—Dil

A bit too wordy for my taste.
