About book An Unexpected Widow (The Colorado Brides Series) (2013)

This book was bad in so many ways. I went back and read some of the reviews after reading it and was not surprised to see so many low reviews.Beginning with the characters, we barely knew anything about them, other than Hannah grew up privileged and thought she was better than just about everyone else. I could barely stand her the more I read about her. She started out being shy and almost naive sounding and the next thing you know she's lusting after a drunk. When did that happen!?Her husband, Frank, made lots of sexual comments and innuendos and I was shocked to see someone considered this Christian fiction. Not by any stretch of the imagination could this be considered Christian fiction. I found it in historical fiction, btw.About the sex or bedroom scenes, they were so childishly written, it was almost painful to read them. The whole book screamed amateur. The part about her 'friends' judging her one minute and then saying she made a good choice in the drunken gambler was crazy. The story was all over the place.I have to comment on just a couple of the grammar and spelling errors. The Cold Navy revolver should actually be a Colt Navy revolver. I had to laugh out loud when the madam corrected her from Mrs. to Ms. Although used during the 17th century, that term was rarely used again until the 1960s. Women would not have referred to themselves as Ms. during the period this occurred. I could go on, but it's a mute point.I got it free on my Kindle. However, my reading time is very limited and I would rather spend it on quality writing than this drivel. Ok story, wasn't super convinced on the writing style. I felt like it would've been better told in the 3rd person - I don't normally think these things, so something must have struck me as odd in the way it was being told. I just couldn't find the sincerity of the character, I couldn't believe all of it.That said, once I got past that, I enjoyed the story for what it was, a quick, light read. Predictable, but I knew it would be before I even started reading, so I enjoyed it enough. :)

It was okay... there is something about this book that feels very fakey to me. Not a fan.
