About book An Education (2009)

I'm spending a lot of time listening to audiobooks lately - I had a bunch of credits lying dormant at Audible. The second chapter of this memoir became the basis of the movie An Education, which I had really enjoyed. The characters in the memoir are not as attractive as the pretty and charming film versions, but the story itself - a 16-year-old proper school girl who enters a relationship with a much older, sophisticated-seeming man who is also some kind of criminal - is intriguing. I'll admit I knew nothing about Lynn Barber, only that the movie "An Education" was roughly based on her memoir of the same name (emphasis on the word "roughly"). The movie is only a portion of her novel whereas her novel outlines her marriage as well as her career. I thoroughly enjoyed her memoir and didn't realize just how famous/successful she was. Overall, her book was very well written and interesting. The only flaw was the ending which felt rather abrupt but I suppose it may have been because I wanted to hear more about her life.

It was great. It was interesting to read the book, and to see how it related to the movie.
