I've had several "popular" pastors who have mentored me in practical theology through their preaching and writing and lectures at conferences. When I was much younger I was most influenced by Bill Hybels. Then as a young pastor, Rick Warren's Purpose-Driven Church changed how I viewed the local church. But over the past 5-10 years Andy Stanley has probably influenced me the most. And this book captures in a nutshell what he and his church is doing and the reasons for it. I really enjoyed this book. It's not an in-depth theological review of how to's. It provides practical ways to address the unchurched. I don't agree with everything he said but I definitely considered everything. I didn't like how he presented some of the information. It was a bit child-like in some ways. At time it seems like he was putting down anyone who didn't agree with the way he did things. It was almost sophomoric. I don't liked to be poked in my chest to do things.Despite the few aggravating points...it's a great book and I would have everyone on my staff read it. In fact, it would be a great training tool.
An easy read and very practical. I really enjoyed his transparency in this book.
