It's been a while since I read this book, so details are sketchy so I'll just give my overall thoughts.Carol O'Connell is an impressive writer. I found the plot interesting and the characters riveting. All but one, that is, her main character, Mallory. What an unlikable troll she is, without a redeeming quality. It doesn't matter that she figures everything out, even the wisp of kindness she demonstrates to the little girl does nothing for me. She is detestable enough for me to not wish to read anything by O'Connell again, unless she's not in it and even still I'll be suspect. That being said, I wholeheartedly endorse the rest of the book and the writing. It was a true reading pleasure. I must be among the few in my dislike of Mallory though as this book has a fairly high rating and the author has a whole series on the unlikable Mallory. Lighting bugs and daisies. "I'm lost." Damn it, she did it again! Every time, I think Carol O'Connell cannot top the last Mallory novel. Every time, she proves me wrong. How can she write so well that you might root for the killer by the end? She may be the only writer who has never ruined her main character. Mallory is always spot on: damaged, brilliant and so ruthlessly lovable that I'm willing to wait another five years for my next fix. I have loved, reread and laughed and cried through every Carol O'Connell novel and never been disappointed. As always, best one yet.
Do You like book Allison Corre Nel Buio (2012)?
Not an easy read, but Mallory is a very interesting character. But seriously? Ew.

Mallory once again bulldogs her way to solving a horrendous crime.

Kinda slow at first; but got its rhythm as you continue to read.
