Libricino di circa 70 pagine che però riesce a far breccia nel lettore per il tema trattato e la delicatezza con cui viene fatto.Albert Nobbs è un cameriere di un prestigioso albergo ma che nasconde il segreto della solitudine scaturita dall'ambiguità: una donna nei panni di un uomo.Sentimenti femminili tradotti in comportamenti e pensieri maschili, un tutt'uno in quest'anima lacerata che si è autolimitata e si accorge solo tardivamente di non poter tornare indietro.Il film, romanzato di poco rispetto al libro, amplia di molto il personaggio ma la brevità del romanzo non toglie nulla alla storia anche se, mi duole dirlo, un lato negativo ce l'ha: tutto il libro è scritto integrando i dialoghi al resto; essendo privo di punteggiatura che apre e chiude le discussioni dei protagonisti e i periodi è piuttosto complicato capire chi sta dicendo cosa e si deve leggere tutto insieme senza fermarsi per comprenderlo.Nonostante questo è una piccola perla, molto gradevole da leggere e che lascia il lettore in preda a una bella, triste ma affascinante riflessione :) I made the mistake of reading the about the movie version of this novella before reading the novella. The movie is based on a play based on the book. Both the play and the movie take this simple and straightforward tale and turn it into a serious and gut-wrenching drama. I won't give away too much in my review except to say that this book is not about LGBT issues. This is a book of its time, which looks at what happens to a person who never loses her innocence, has an identity or experiences real freedom.A satisfying read, though the prose is dense, and the plot developments are as subtle as Albert herself. Be sure to remember that this is a frame story and not a straight-up third person omniscient account.
