About book Airfield (2001)

"Airfield", by Jeanette Ingold takes place in Muddy Springs, Texas during times of the depression. Betty has lived part of each year with one of her three aunts, rotating among them every few months. This summer month, she's in Texas with her aunt Clo and Uncle Grif. Grif has just landed a flight control job as did Betty's dad who sends air mail. Also, Betty's deceased mother has taken big roles in flying herself. Airplane flight is in Betty's blood. As Betty spends more and more time at the airfield, she get an erg to discover what her mothers history. As Betty meets a handful of people at the airfield who are familiar with her mother, she too meets Moss. Moss is a homeless, alone boy who’s family spilt due the depression. Immediately the two work side by side at the airfield, plan an air show, and save Betty's some lives on the way. Overall, I enjoyed this read. However, I feel that in the end, everything fell into place too neatly which isn't very realistic.
