About book Agent Bishop: True Stories From An FBI Agent Moonlighting As A Mormon Bishop (2009)

For 30 years Mike McPheters was an FBI agent. This is an account of many of his experiences. Because he was assigned to the Portland, Oregon and Pendleton, Oregon offices for some of his career I was familiar with the places and cases he was involved with. But most interesting to me was the contrast of his FBI life where he was constantly dealing with the worst of society while in his off-time he was a devoted family man, father of five, active in the Mormon church even serving as bishop four times during his 30 years. An admirable man. This is a very interesting and unique story and I really enjoyed it. I feel like I understand better the sacrifices made by FBI and other law enforcement to keep our homes & family's safe. Many of the stories were fascinating to read. They are quite detailed, though, and some are quite grizzly. It's written straightforward and matter-of-fact, like you were sitting in his living room hearing him tell you about his adventures. I especially enjoyed the ending where he tells about his experiences on 9/11/01 and the unity he felt in our magnificent county. I was lucky enough to meet Mike Mcpheters and his wife at BYU Women's Conference in 2010, and Mike signed my copy of the book. Very nice couple - you could see his experience in his eyes. Great story combining the excitement and uniqueness of being an FBI agent with the somewhat "normal" life of being a Bishop and member of the LDS Faith.

A bit slow. Some chapters are better than others. Interesting read.

This book needed a firm editor. I gave up in the first chapter.
