I've read 3 of Kat Martins books and something just falls flat for me. I didn't like the heroine who lacked self esteem when dealing with Ty. Each of her heroines are either weak of self deprecating. It's a big turn off. Why women needed to call Ty throughout the book just to show that Haley is uncomfortable. It just rubbed me wrong. I also would have liked to have some resolution with Haley's mother. ***Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin for providing me with a copy for review***4 starsHaley Warren is in California because her late father's wife, Betty Jean, is convinced that her father's death was a murder rather than an accident. Haley had been estranged from her father after her parents' divorce, and wants to make sure for herself what might have happened. In order to figure it out, Haley's Aunt Ellie helps her hire a private investigator. Tyler Brodie, the handsome investigator, learns that Haley's father--an insurance investigator--was investigating some art thefts at the time of his murder, he's pretty sure that his death was no accident. With valuable art at stake, people could be moved to kill. As Tyler and Haley get closer to the truth, the people responsible become more dangerous to them--there are attempts on Haley's and Betty Jean's life--can they survive long enough to get to the bottom of Haley's father's death? This series, which is called the Raines of Wind Canyon, but hasn't had much of anything to do with the Raines since the first three books, is really developing into a solid romantic suspense series. I really have enjoyed the six or so books that I've read in this series. In this book, there are twists and turns and some mystery to it that I enjoyed. I also thought that the chemistry between the two main characters was good, and that the relationship developed in a somewhat believable way (this is a romance novel, after all...) All in all a solid book in a solid series. If you haven't read them, do!
