I didn’t initially jump into the storyline. At first, I wasn’t feeling this book and didn’t know if I’d stick with it. it seemed almost boring.At times I couldn’t put it down, and other times it just wasn’t that exciting.I thought this book was going to be set at Christmastime or at least during the winter, but it really wasn't set around winter. after I got done reading, I wondered why there was a sleigh on the cover and then I remembered that one miniscule sleigh ride. I wish the book had been more about winter, or that they had done more activities outside. Why would you tell us in the description that morgan isn’t the guy who abducted her? That would have been a great surprise to find out during the book!What’s this God of Fire stuff.?In the beginning knighton didn’t seem very likeable. Or a good husband. Im just not getting a sense of a good, close relationship between him and Rosalind.I usually get seriously annoyed when guys just decide to marry the girl to right a wrong. but I wasn’t in here. It actually made sense. “they wouldn’t even let me buss their cheeks.” Why would you do that to the servants?“in London, he’d had a few discreet encounters with light skirts.” Ahhh! Jeffries actually led it up where I thought he hadn’t been with a woman. How cruel! She gave every indication that he was a true gentleman. And I thought he’d be different from all jeffries’ other male characters. Thanks. For absolutely nothing. Modern-“stellar.” “quack.” “marzipan.”Where did rosalind’s outrageous sense of humor come from?! The comment about tiring her husband out was really shocking.I cant believe that the author used Rosalind trying to conceive to extend their stay at sebastian’s. what a weird reason.The comment about the dragon &the virgin and the virgin &the sea serpent are both random and dramatic. I was so confused about the theater thing! she admitted their first meeting was in a theater, which was what Sebastian said, wasn’t it? that he wanted her since he first met her years ago, at the theater. The “now…forever…just we two…” didn’t sound very smart. Him coming to town and seeing her dance with some random guy and getting jealous has been done a million and one times! Its so overdone, which makes it annoying to read.I love that he hasn’t been with many women and doesn’t want to. It’s really refreshing to read that and im not sure why authors don’t do it more often.This is an interesting new storyline-that he’s the way he is because he’s been building a good reputation and doesn’t want to be like his dad. I wish Jeffries would write this type of male character more often!I found it irritating that Juliet has been making comments about his lack of experience with women. Do you really want your guy to have been with a million women?“I don’t need experience with women. I only need experience with you.” How sweet!“the virginal sorts annoyed him with their vacuous discussions of the weather, the latest gossip, and the last ball they’d attended. The widows were no more tolerable, either. When they weren’t assessing his suitability for marriage, they were offering to “entertain” him. come to think of it, the married women did their share of the latter.” That didn’t sound like Sebastian at all. And when exactly did all this happen?The foot thing under the table was a tad weird. I’ve never come across anything else like it.I don’t understand how Montfort knew that Sebastian was the kidnapper from what the footman said. “I haven’t the foggiest.” Huh?We get it, you love him! the “my love” every two seconds is a bit much. It doesn’t sound like her, either.I understand both their arguments in the beginning, that she wanted him to tell her family the truth, and that he couldn’t because of morgan’s safety, but eventually neither side made sense. I just wish that he would have just told her family or she would have just consented to wait. I mean, as much as she complains about her family treating her like a child, she sure wanted them to know the truth before she got married. She never let it go. “a pity that her dull husband couldn’t see it. he sat there sullen, like the hot-tempered idiot he was.” yeah, it sure sounds like they have a great relationship.Griff’s sense of honor is seriously exhausting. I hate when the guy’s really overprotective of his wife’s sister. It’s annoying and misplaced! Why are you worried so much? She’s not your wife!The target practice and sun analogy was really sweet!Im not seeing how Juliet has suffered so much and that her kidnapper ruined her life. She’s been fine so why is griff acting like she’s been living in agony? The only thing that happened to her was that she became cautious and doubted herself about choosing the right guy. And then two years later, a flimsy rumor starts. And that’s it.THANK GOD the word cynicism wasn’t applied to the main character. I swear that became a trend to write about cynical guys. i didn’t mind as much that it was applied to morgan.Im glad there was a prologue and obviously I wanted to hear that Rosalind had a baby, but it was a little blasé the way they mentioned it. it was mentioned with no leadup. It was like BAM. Almost the first sentence of the epilogue. The same goes for Juliet.I thought the epilogue was cute, but I wish it had been longer and more personal. Like just her and Sebastian. &then the last line about a “reckless man” kinda confused me. Sebastian isn’t reckless.
I've only read one other book by Jeffries (The Truth about Lord Stoneville) and I loved it. So I had great expectations for this one. I did like this book but it just didn't hold my attention as firmly as I'd expected. I'm not sure whether, being the middle book in the series, it lacked some background information found in the previous books that would have added something extra to the characters, or to the subplot pertaining to the rumours about Juliet's reputation, or to Juliet's infatuation with "Morgan" before and after being kidnapped. For whatever reason, I found that the relationship between Juliet and Sebastian seemed to take forever to develop and I didn't really warm to either of them until the final third of the book. Whatever was lacking for me was subtle because I certainly didn't have any difficulty following the plot or understanding the relationship among characters.The scenes containing Griff and Rosalind were among my favourites, so I fully intend to read the first two books in the series. If after reading the first two I decide that this book deserves a reread, I'll do so, and change my rating accordingly. But for now, this book was an average read.Note: I recently reread this book after having read the first two in the series. I found I enjoyed it more because I had a better understanding of the situation surrounding the abduction and I was more familiar with all the major characters. Having this background made the story that much richer. Based on my experience, I would definitely recommend reading this series in the order written. I've adjusted the rating from three stars to four stars since I found the story much more entertaining as I reread it.

I am currently reading Sabrina Jeffries' backlist. I believe I started reading some of her backlist last year but I wasn't able to read any book from the Swanlea Spinster Series. This book can be read as a stand alone however, there are mentions of the other sisters.
