About book About That Night (2012)

I'm 2 for 2 on this author and thrilled to see that she's got a few more yet to come! I finished "It Happened One Wedding" yesterday and rushed through this one last night and today. I really enjoy the subtle style, the sweet coming together of these two people, the slightly spicy but not over-the-top sex, and the humor. Kyle is "The Twitter Terrorist" -- He took down twitter for a couple of days after his girlfriend tweeted him a breakup message then tweeted pictures of herself with her new beau. He got drunk and decided the world would be better off without twitter ... can't say I disagree even if it was a stupid stunt that landed him in prison for a while. :)Rylann is an assistant district attorney who inherits Kyle's case briefly after he makes a deal to cut his sentence. Oh, and they met once ten years earlier, back in college. He stood her up for a date but since his mom died, we can forgive him. A lot of this story was about Kyle getting his life back together and about Rylann concerned that her career would be damaged by hooking up with Kyle. The tension wasn't super high at any point, which is why I went with four stars, but it was there and it was genuine. Genuine is a quality I look for in romances that is so often missing. I loved the subtle moments of intimacy that drew these two together.I recommend this book, and I plan to read more by this author. I really, really enjoyed this book and I thought the characters were great.Kyle was an okay guy. At first I didn't really know what to make of him because he's such a guy in that he only cares about money, working, and women. Like, apart from his conviction all he didn't really seem to care about anything. I also thought that because he had met Rylann before he'd treat her differently than he did other women. Like, he felt such a connection with her the first time they met, but nine years later all he wants is basically a friends with benefit relationship with her. It just made him kind of superficial. It wasn't until about halfway through the book or a little later that I finally felt like he was being genuine. At that point I started to like him a lot more, but it wasn't until the very end that I genuinely liked him. He grew a lot as the book progressed and I liked reading about him. Regarding Rylann, I thought she was amazing. I'm seriously thinking about pursuing law after I get my bachelor's, but reading this book actually made me question that. Mainly because Rylann is so good at what she does and I wonder how I could ever do that. She was great in and out of the courthouse and I kind of felt like she deserved a lot more in terms of relationships than what she'd gotten. At the end, I was very satisfied with her and Kyle, but idk, I wanted something more.Overall the book was great with really funny parts, great characters, and good story, but I did feel that it was kind of rushed the end. It ended a bit abruptly for me, but it was still good.
