I would have preferred Gideon and Savannah getting to know each other better before jumping in the sack. But the pace makes sense for a novella. I’ve always liked those two, so finally reading their story was nice. And dang, Gideon is so sweet! Obviously this is part of the Midnight Breed series. It’s possible to read this without reading the earlier books, but I don’t think you’d enjoy this nearly as much without understand more about their history. I loved this! Great writing style, very easy to read & follow the story. Good balance of action and romance.I felt that all of the characters in this book were well written and had plenty of depth to them.The fact that this prequel was written once the series was already well established did mean that, as a virgin reader to this series, I felt that I was playing catch up at times e.g. the origins of the Breed, the Order & how the social, political side of this world works. I assume this is all explained in the first couple of books. I note that at this time there are at least 12 novels plus 4 novellas in this series at the moment.... that'll keep me busy for a while! ;-)
