About book A Torre Negra, Volume 3: Traição (2011)
The moral of the story is that women should stay away from Roland! He let Susan die, killed his mom, and would kill the nice old lady who held his grapefruit for him if he could find her. I'm really quite afraid for Aileen Ritter. Boy is Cort gonna be pissed when Roland puts a bullet in her. And I think, yeah, Roland's definitely out of hawks.This is the third installment in the series and I have enjoyed both story and art in each. I just wonder why Roland's supposedly wise father let's Gabrielle off so easy? Her penance is to go crochet at a convent and come back by the end of the weekend? Come on. And Justus, that guy has traitor written all over him. He looks like a cracked out Hare Krishna. I have nothing against Hare Krishnas in general but you can't trust one that's cracked out.The one thing this volume lacked was that one really signature scene (like Roland winning his guns in volume 1 or the stand off with the Big Coffin Hunters in volume 2). I like the introduction of Aileen Ritter and look forward to learning more about her moving forward. The pacing was a little off in this one. I don't understand how one of the gunslingers and his wife are in Gilead one second and in Farson's hands the next. Unless Farson is really that close. You would think someone in Gilead would notice a whole army descending upon them, but then again maybe not. Overall, it advances the story. The mood and tone remain grim and dark. We know there aren't going to be many moments of happiness but we want to see what happens anyway. I like the mashup between the western and medieval genres. It all works for me. If you have read any of the books or the first two volumes I urge you to keep reading. You won't be disappointed. This was the best book in the series so far. I love Aileen, even better than Susan. I like that the Aileen mentioned in the original version of The Gunslinger (taken out of the more recent reworked version) has finally been explained somewhat and look forward to seeing more about her. I really like the artwork for the female characters, mainly Aileen (she's the one on the cover), but Gabrielle was well done too. I seriously hate the artwork for Alain. His face is like a ball of dough with a squishy face.This book had a lot of new material, like book 2. I loved the ending. I knew that was going to happen from the original books, but I still felt like, "Wow." My favorite so far.
