I enjoyed this book, it had a nice pace, new theme and fresh look on Queen Elizabeth's court. I've read a lot of historical fiction and some authors take it as license to get sloppy, but the characters in this book were well fledged. A few characters switches from sweet to sour or sour to sweet seemed a little quick or abrupt, but otherwise the duel nature of courtesy and scheming was well balanced. It was a bit slow, you were always expecting something more sinister than that her aunt was trying to marry her off to a older guy you knew she wouldn't like. The descriptions of the the pagentry of the Queens court and the clothing were involved if you were into that. The subtlties of court life unfolded in an interesting way but you already knew she was going to meet some catty women. That was probably the best part, that and the very end when the guy finally declares himself. If you don't have anything else to read, it'd be enough to pass the time.
