I always known am in for a deep read with any of MB’s works, the depth of her characters always amaze me, as the layers of Kit and Lauren are slowly peeled away, their masks falling away to show two wounded souls drawn to one another. Kit blamed himself for what happen to his younger brother, and went mad a summer three years ago, the topper was the fight with his older brother and his brother’s sudden betrothal to a woman he desired to marry himself. Kit didn’t understand the damage he was doing not only to himself but his family who were also to blame, who didn’t try to reason with him, and Kit became the scapegoat of sorts for all around. The pain runs deep for Kit when his older brother dies living him not having the chance to ask for his forgiveness and saying good-bye and his war torn memories that plague. Kit and Lauren wore different mask, but nevertheless wore masks to hide the pain they dealt with everyday. Kit’s carefree mask and Lauren’s cool lady. When the wager and plan is set between Kit and Lauren, we start to see Kit’s true face reveled. Kit’s humor and joy he showed to Lauren was beautiful, simply things from climbing a tree and taking a swim, you saw Kit finally letting go of the darkness that followed him while helping Lauren deal with hers. Kit was funny, and just amazing as he showed Lauren she could just enjoy being alive. Lauren cool mask, slips away as the summer days past, with Kit showing her the simply things in life, the simple pleasures of just being alive. Lauren came to terms with many things, her almost wedding, her mother leaving her behind and finally finding her true self. Lauren healed many family wounds in Kit’s family between Kit and his younger brother Syd. Kit and Lauren heal each other wounds, while they slowly start to fall in love with one another, the process is slow, but it makes it only that much sweeter when they tell one another their feelings. There was some very memorable secondary characters, mostly the Bedwyins, whom were a strong family, and although they tried to throw their weight around with Lauren, Lauren, lady like set them down in style. Freyja the woman Kit was madly in love with, and his brother’s betrothal is at times was very hurtful and hateful, the reason she acted the way comes to light later on, but I still couldn’t bring myself to like her but I did pity her. Even the great Bedwyins couldn’t take away the center stage from the gentle love that bloomed between Kit and Lauren and their love story, I loved the easy pace the story is told, much like a summer breeze... Overall: MB is such a strong story-teller, with the depth she gives all her characters and Kit and Lauren just prove how amazing MB is as she tells their love story and their wounds being healed by one another’s love......Summer breeze, makes me feel fineBlowing through the jasmine in my mindSummer breeze, makes me feel fineBlowing through the jasmine in my mind..........

Só ganhei embalagem para o ler após ter “ouvido/lido” algumas opiniões que o consideravam melhor que o primeiro e que era bem agradável. Devo confessar que desta vez fiquei surpreendida e é realmente mais interessante que o anterior.Gostei bastante do enredo. Adorei o pouco cavalheiresco Kit Butler e o contraste que faz com a controladissima Lady Lauren, neste caso, acenta bem o ditado que refere que os opostos se atraem e se completam. Kit precisava de encontrar a calma na sua vida e reconciliar-se com a família e, por sua vez, Lauren precisava de se encontrar a ela própria, livrar-se de todas a regras rígidas pelas quais se guiava. Do confronto de ambos resulta o seu crescimento pessoal.Relativamente às personagens secundárias, continuo a considerar Gwen encantadora e espero que a autora lhe faça um bom arranjinho. Este livro também serve de introdução aos terríveis irmãos Bedwyn que também já têm uma serie sua! Lamentavelmente, continuo a ter dificuldade em me adaptar à maneira de escrever da autora ou à maneira de como se exprimir, falta algo que me entusiasme e que me cative.

Terminada a leitura de mais um livro desta maravilhosa autora fico satisfeita por constatar que as minhas primeiras impressões acerca do livro anterior estavam correctas. Não só estes livros cativam pelas suas personagens como também pelo ambiente pitoresco no qual se passa a acção. Este foi um livro que acabou por me surpreender bastante, sem querer entrar em spoilers confesso que anteriormente a personagem Lauren pareceu-me um pouco apagada e quase sem vontade própria. Alguém que se vivia apenas para as aparências e que não se deixava levar pelo prazer de viver a sua própria vida. Talvez essa imagem até era correcta, pelo menos até conhecer o irreverente Kit Butler, que tudo fará para que a fria Miss Edgeworth desabroche e se torne numa mulher doce e com vontade de se aventurar por caminhos desconhecidos. O romance entre os dois é sem dúvida cativante, sem contar também com a forma chocante como as suas personagens tão diferentes acabam por se completar. Claro que, como em todos os livros, há sempre algo ou algum personagem que não gostamos e desta vez foi Freyja Bedwyn que mostrou ser uma menina mimada a quem tinham tirado o seu brinquedo favorito e que só agora parecia querer dar-lhe algum valor. Ao mesmo tempo fico ansiosa para ler o seu livro, pois tenho a esperança de que tal como aconteceu com Lauren, Freyja venha surpreender de forma positiva e justificativa para o seu péssimo génio. Tenho a certeza que toda a saga dos terríveis irmãos Bedwyn irá trazer-nos bons momentos de leitura e até mesmo algumas gargalhadas. Espero sinceramente que a Asa nos traga até nós essa saga, pois acredito que irá fazer um enorme sucesso entre os já amantes destes dois livros lançados no nosso país.Tirando o meu gosto pessoal pela personagem Freyja, não tenho qualquer ponto negativo a apontar na história, que acabou por ser quase devorada em poucas horas.Fico então à espera do próximo livro da autora….

This is a beautifully written book. From start to finish. I was expecting a more lighthearted story and recieved a very deeply moving one instead. Kit a war hero with a love for life and doesn't care what specticule he makes or where he makes it, or so it seems. Lauren, miss prim and proper who is afraid to live life at all. They come across each other in Hyde Park where Kit is fighting riffraff for the honor of a milkmaid. Can this be fate. My favorite line: "Come on, you buggers". It makes me laugh even now. Kit is tortured and Lauren is afraid of her shadow. This is a multi-layered story and if unfolds beautifully. A must read for those that like a little more intense storyline.
