I thought this was pretty cute. I like Miss Murphy, but find the plots too formulaic and dull. I liked the characters (but then I always like dogs), but I found it odd that they all had the same speech patterns. The only other thing that bothers me about Brown's style is her penchant to give her characters absolutely weird nicknames. There's nothing wrong with characters just having normal names.Book Bingo Category: a mystery I have read many of Rita Mae Brown's previous mysteries and especially liked her Mrs Murphy series. This is the first of a new series starring Mags Roger and her dachshund Baxter. I'm sorry to say after 75 pages I gave up. The mystery revolves around a dead body and water rights. I found myself bogged down and bored in all the extraneous information about Nevada water rights. Even some of the character development contained a great deal of unnecessary information. Just felt it wasn't up to the usual storyline I expect to find from Rita Mae Brown.
