About book A Memory Away (2000)

A Memory AwayBy Taylor Lewis Kyle Garritsen lives in a world where some men can have children. He happens to be one. Now he is raising his son from a one-night stand and trying to live as normal a life as he can. It isn’t easy being a single father. Then someone decides to knock out the front window of his business and the officer sent to investigate is the last person Garritsen wants to see. Kyle doesn’t know if he is hurt that the detective can't remember him or scared out of his wits that the detective is going to remember and want to make a claim on the child that they share. So from this point on the action gets more intense as the detective tries to solve a crime and remember and Kyle is trying to keep the secrets of the past buried. Taylor Lewis has a real control on managing the intensity of the story and drawing the reader in. This is not my usual genre but I have to compliment Lewis on the masterful way this is written as it drew me in and held me till the end. A read that will have you drawn to the characters and their plight as you read this masterfully done story.Bella Doerres 05/07/14 Okay, the story is about Jonah and Kyle, but let me get something out of the way first. Gina Lopez. I mostly hated her, but still kind of liked her. At times she was worse than any male character I've read, without that character being the bad guy. The things that came out of her mouth were disgusting. She belittled and tossed out stereotypical slurs that just burned me up. Then the next second she's as loyal a friend to Jonah as you can get. So yeah, big hate/like relationship going on between me and Gina Lopez. Now for the rest of the story. Kyle was adorable, sweet and snarky. Jonah, classic alpha male who was at times a huge ass and other times, really sweet. Though he didn't want to talk about his feelings, at least he didn't perpetually run from them. His treatment of Kyle when he first found out about Shea (Who along with Lady Ga-Ga, were adorable and believable) made him an ass. Jonah's fall into guilt over it, was just gross. But he did redeem himself admirably.Kyle, along with his collected family, managed to make a difficult decision to keep his baby and build a life for them, even if it wasn't the life he had planned. The whole hermaphrodite thing was, for the most part, a plausible reason to allow his pregnancy. Megan was laugh-out-loud funny and I was glad she was able to get her licks in against Jonah for being an ass.All in all, I really liked this one.Edit: Head hopping alert!
