A fun story about a small-town Texas girl who heads to New York to study art.Some really great parts (be true to yourself, take the time to discover who you are) and some sort of ridiculously predictable parts (Kitsy? Where on earth did that name come from?).On a whole good. Great library purchase where many people would benefit from the investment. Wouldn't buy it for a personal collection as it's not one I see rereading. This was a refreshing YA adult book; it was a contemporary coming of age story. Even though there are no paranormal beings or corrupt governments to overthrow Kitsy"s story is engaging. After going to New York to attend an art program, Kitsy has new experiences that helps her to gain insight to the life she wants and the person she wants to be. I felt like Kitsy's personal cheerleader during the entire story. Gwendolyn Heasley created fun, lovable, quirky, and maybe a little edgy secondary characters who only add to an already amazing story. I really appreciated the movie references, smiling every time Kitsy mentioned one. I enjoyed reading about the art world. Even if you have no knowledge about art you will gain a respect for artsy and/or all creative people after reading this book. While this was a nice cutesy read, Gwendolyn Heasley still introduces family issues that give the story more depth. I really enjoyed Kitsy's story. I can't wait to read the follow-up book, which contains Corinne's story. I want to have a better understanding of her and the friendship she has with Kitsy.
