I started this book, expecting a "typical" John Inman novel, amazing sweet and hilarious.That was not what I got here.. But no less an amazing story.This is a crime story if I have ever read one.It starts with a Religious maniac guy on a quest..killing That special sinner, that he knows all about, and not caring whom he kills on his way.As we read we find; A 45 year old hairdresser named Harry, that obsesses about his last BDay- present, a sweet rent boy.The sweet rent boy, Sean, that finds himself in the middle of the killing spree as a target, and find a safe heaven with Harry, sending Harry into a load of problems and guilt. The two police officers in charge; Jimmy Smith and Jeff McCray, two wonderful guys with a great sense of humour about almost everthing, and have each others back.A lot of other nice and less nice co-persons here, that we love and care about here.A wonderful story, caring and loving, but at that same time violent and gory..For what happens throughout this story, I will love it and care about it and I will read it again..and again...just like I do with all of Mr Inmans books..♥ Suspense, horror, love, humor – all in one incredible story!Sean Andros is a 21-year old gay man who sells his body for money but is starting to rethink his lifestyle choice. Harry is a 45-year old ex-marine and hairdresser who thinks he may be falling in love again at last. When Sean witnesses the murder of his client, he escapes to a nearby gay bar where he finds Harry. Harry helps him escape from the killer and offers him refuge. What Sean doesn’t realize is that he was the intended victim and his client was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Boy was he ever. This author keeps surprising me. I’ll admit, I started this book a while back and put it down because it was too scary and not just a little bit gory. After reading the reviews I tried it again and I’m so glad I did. This book had me on the edge of my seat as it bounced me back and forth between the killer, the detectives and the lovers, Sean and Harry. This book jumped all the way to my top ten and now this author has three books occupying that sacred (to me!) space.First, and foremost, the writing is beautiful. John Inman paints the scenes in such a way that the reader is transported to the location and has a front row seat to the action. The dialogue between the characters is witty, clever and succinct. Secondly, the characters are so vivid, real, and certainly flawed. All of the characters, from the killer, to the detectives (who are hilarious) to Sean and Harry, to even the bellhop in the airport with the smallest (but powerful scary) part will stay with you long after you’ve finished the book. Lastly, the story moves at a quick pace, with such suspense that I found myself not able to put the book down. Suspenseful, scary, sweet, funny, romantic….what else could you want?
