What a perfect book! Funny Little Bird is almost invisible. He blends in with everything. Nobody really sees him and he is tired of not being noticed. He discovers a way to stand out and learns that there are dangers afoot for those who show off. The use of negative space is clever and charming. I love the funny little bird and I am glad that he is happy being who he is and helping others in the process. A mostly invisible bird collects natural treasures to create a peacock-like plume. When his feathers draw attention from predators he finally begins to understand why he is so special. His invisibility is a unique quality not a disability. LOVE LOVE LOVE the artwork!!! Hands down the best use of white space in a picture book! The image of the little bird is created using the objects around it in the environment, meaning the bird is invisible to the reader's eye without objects around it to define its edges. The overall effect is brilliant! PreK-2.
