About book A Field Guide To Burying Your Parents (2009)
Love this author. Discovered her when I read "Nowhere but home". This book is about the relationship of siblings who came together during a very difficult time. But what really made me think is how important it is to have a power of attorney and an contestable will. Because times are hard enough let alone when the difficult subjects have not been laid out on top of it. Note to self to revisit our will etc. frequently before it is ever needed. I loved this novel. This has such a rich exploration of grief, guilt, regret and above all, the ties that bind a family together. I saw much of my family dynamic within this novel which, while scary, also gave me hope for how things can improve. The bond between the siblings is dynamic and genuine, full of love, hate, jealousy and encouragement. There is also a great complexity revealed here - that moment when we must all realize that our parents are not just our parents, but are people - full of their own lives, loves and mistakes that have nothing to do with us.

I could so relate to Grace. This book was sadness with just the right amount of hope, and humor.

Slow in the beginning but worth the read if you stick with it.

Funny and heartbreaking, not spectacular, but a solid read.
