About book A Devil And Her Love Song, Vol. 1 (2012)
I'm glad that I picked this up when I saw this at the library. Definitely going to read manga since Maria is a very intriguing character. She can literally "see through" every person's real personality and motives. But after she met Yukane and Shin, you can see some changes in her. But I sense that there is more between Shin and Maria and I want to find out what kind of development we will see between them two. A romantic one? Maria Kawai is a transfer student from St. Katria's, an exclusive Catholic school. She was expelled for beating up a teacher, and in our first view of her, she's too rude to allow an elderly woman her seat on the train. What the students around her don't realize is she can tell the woman is a pickpocket, and targeting the man sitting next to Maria. As she gets up from her seat on the train, she kicks the man to waken him, and whispers to the woman that she's aware she's a pickpocket, and she'd better not try anything on the train. The other students only see Maria's violence, of course, and, while she's a very pretty girl, she is also very harsh with her words. She immediately attracts the attention of two young men, Yusuke Kanda and Shin Meguro, who appear to be the only boys in her school. Yusuke is a sweet kid who tries to encourage Maria that her words are too harsh, and she needs to put a 'lovely spin' on everything she says, otherwise, she won't make friends. Shin, on the other hand, doesn't really want anything to do with her, so we can pretty much guess that she's going to wind up with him at the end of the series. The art is very pretty, though Yusuke's "adorable" looks make me kind of roll my eyes (he looks like a kitten when he does). I think I would enjoy this story more if there was a humorous slant to it, but it seems to be played very straight so far. I have the second book in hand, and I'll give it a look, but this doesn't really seem to my type of story.
