About book A Couple Of Boys Have The Best Week Ever [With Hardcover Book] (2000)
Description: Best friends, James and Eamon, spend a week a week at nature camp but have the best time, not at camp, but spending time together. Genre: This Picture book is realistic fictionIntended Audience: 1st Grade - 3rd GradeCurriculum Connection: For elementary grades, I think this is a great example for students to use as a model for narrative writing. The topic of the best week ever is one that many students can relate to. Their writings and descriptions can be accompanied by their illustrations of the events. Personal Reaction: I thought that this was a great friendship story. The descriptions of Eamon and James becoming Jamon is relatable for many of us when we think of our childhood best friends. They were typical boys having fun in the summer. Assessment of Visual Appeal: Since nature camp was not the highlight of their week, most of the illustrations were of the other, more exciting things the two boys did together. What was interesting though was that the endpapers are a photo album of the things they did do at summer camp. It is a great connector to the story and interesting to look through to fill in the gaps of what types of activities the boys did during their days. Very fun.Frazee's illustrations add SO much to her text--irony, hilarity, poignancy, .... A good example of a picture book in which the text absolutely cannot stand on its own. In addition, it's a great story--we grown-ups so often plan kids' weeks out so they "get the most out of it" or something like that. In actuality, they have the most fun being creative and enjoying things like "nature" on their own.

A book to read to little boys. It shows them that it's ok to be a wild little boy!
