About book A Christmas Prayer (2014)

The main thing I liked aboout this book was that it was a quick read: I was just coming off reading a very large book. This book was an easy read: it only took me aboout two hours to read it. However, I felt like there were a lot of holes in this book and very little character development. If I had already read some of the author's other books, I might not have felt this way. At the end of the day, this was not one of my favorite books; but it was not an awful book. I read this book as it was the book of the month for December for my book club, Mocha Girls Read. And all I could think was, "meh."It was pretty one dimensional in all respects. The characters were very flat and very obvious. I'm not going to bash this book. It's a novella, so maybe if I was invested in the series this little snippet would be more meaningful. As a standalone, it just isn't my bag.You kind of figure that A Christmas Prayer will end up being granted, so it met expectations. I would have been more wowed with a plot twist or two. Okay, so technically there was one involving the monster-in-law, but it wasn't shocking.I'm not sure why Roby writes such awful female characters. I read the first two chapters of A House Divided from the series when it too was selected as a BOTM. Charlotte was just awful, just evil and spiteful for no damn reason. I couldn't read it. She seemed like a different person in this one. Learned her lesson? Maybe so.
