About book A Christmas Memory (2013)

My Review:I liked this story. J.J. is a history teacher at the high school. Lately the coach has been choosing to sit with him at lunch, something that J.J. isn't real thrilled about. While the guy is really attractive and built, he's annoying to J.J...really exuberant and pushy. Not exactly the set-up you expect for a romantic story, but Max Vos made it work. The coach corners J.J. into helping him decorate for the holidays. J.J. tries to get out of it, but isn't successful so they end up spending the day together...and much to J.J's surprise, he actually has a good time. He's still not willing to accept the coach as a friend and tries to go back to his solitary life. Adam doesn't give in.I loved Adam. Yes, he comes on too strong at the beginning, but as his reasons are slowly revealed, I fell more and more in love with him. This is a guy who is a true romantic at his heart and he absolutely melted mine. I loved the way this relationship developed and how he slowly won over J.J. too. It's an incredibly sweet and romantic story and I'm so glad I picked it up to read this Christmas. It's a christmas story so I always expect to have to suspend belief to be get to the schmaltzy ending. For me, this was a book of 3 parts - the first half was quite good, all the build up of Coach and Jonesy, learnng a bit about their backgrounds, bit of is he/isn't he unrequied feelings going on. Adam did come over as a bit of a good natured, one man steamroller! I was thinking this was going to be a good 4* read. The third quarter of the book was basically a shag fest, which in itself as a plot wasn't an issue, but I did have a few raised eye brows at some of the terminolgy (lots of belief suspension going on) for cocks and cum - it felt as if every term had to be used. The last quarter of the story was less descriptive but didn't quite get back to the first half levels, perhaps because Adam and JJ were together by then, so no real tension left. There was a waking moment that, whilst I can see why it is there, did cause me to frown a bit. And I got my schmaltzy ending, yay!So, whilst overall I don't think it delivered the promise of the first half for me, I did enjoy.
