This book had my emotions all over the place. It made me grateful to know a man name Jesus. It is so much evil people in this world and to know one of those people is your parent. The trauma that Rachel and Michael went through is so real in our society. When you thing you have it bad someone else has it worst. But there is one thing I know my redeemer lives and I thank Jesus for my own deliverance from an X that was a crackhead and abuser. To God be all the glory!!! I'm surprised this book has such a high rating because while there was a plot, the story line was repeated over and over. The same beatings, the same drugs, the same everything. I read it all almost in a couple of hours. I was looking forward to reading it, but was disappointed afterward. Now, although I have the 2 sequels to this books. I'm not sure I want to read them or not. I'm sure this is an independent writer without an editor also. There were many spelling errors and punctuation issues as well.
