Loooong stretches of boring.I disliked fifty percent of the main cast. Note: Doug's the one I could stand ftr.The abrupt transfer of Christopher's interest about thirty freaking seconds after his partner revealed HIS interest when Christopher had pined for YEARS made zero sense. Gee, yeah, that's just what I would have done in his shoes. Four years, a kiss, a punch to the face, and he slams the door shut, moves on to the next warm body he spots. It's like Chekhov's gun not going off. Except it does go off - it's fired into the air so no one is in the slightest bit of danger. So what's the point? *fizzles*And I prefer procedurals where the detectives are coming at the case from a distance. It's one thing for the victim and villain's lives to be grim. If a detective is too close to it all (say, related by blood,) it gets too hard for me to buy into any kind of happy ending. This book was never going to work for me. Sometimes it's the wrong time. This is just a wrong book, no matter the time. This is my first book by this author and I am pleased to say ... I love it. Doug Heavy Runner left the life as a Miami police officer and returned to his home when his mother got sick.Detective Christopher Hayes is from San Diego and currently recuperating from being shot. When Christopher travels from San Diego to Montana to deal with his brother’s suicide... What he doesn’t expect is to meet Doug ... Nonetheless after a weekend together to discover Doug is in charge of the investigation.Doug and Christopher form a bond , a friendship and also a sexual relationship. While this is happening the investigation is fueled by a pedophile case, disappearance and almost costing both of their lives. The book is well written and the story is really engaging. Great book ...
