This is the first book of a spin-off series to the author's Honor Harrington books. Set several hundred years before the Honor books, this series features on of Honor's ancestors and the first meetings between humans and treecats. A large portion of this book was originally published in one of the Honor Harrington anthologies, so if you've read that before you might be disappointed in the amount of new material here, but the original part is still very good and the new material helps set the stage for the series. These books are advertised as YA fiction, but I think they are readily enjoyable by adults, too. Certinaly worth looking into even if you are not already a fan of the Honor books. Read a book on Honorverse after a gap of almost 5 years and loved it. The first part of the story was the introduction of a tree cat and the way the relationship forms with Stephanine is very well portrayed. One will instantly fall in love with both the pratogonist - the girl and the cat. The plot and pace of story is just perfect. It’s a story full of adventure, emotions, uncertainty and discoveries. One of the best story from Honorverse. (5/5)The Second part which expends on what happens one's the discovery of tree cat is made public is a decent read. It introduces many characters but none of them make a lasting impression. Also with the focus being on a poacher's it just wasn't as interesting or big as the first part of the novel. Although i liked how the workings of politics , planetary migration and such are explained - will be of interest to fan of Honorverse. (4/5)
Do You like book A Beautiful Friendship (2011)?
Kind of slow. Focuses on tree cats, no battles. Overall, though, still entertaining.
