About book 2B Or Not 2B? (2014)

2.5-3 stars. The essence of this story was great. I love the premise of college roommates falling for eachother. Also the military angle and broken heart would have worked for me. But unfortunately it did not hold up much because of the writing. Despite not really appreciating the prose, I still was reading the story never feeling bored. And that's why it's leaning towards 3 stars. The writing itself was just a 2. And maybe all the problems with the writing would have been fixed with a good editor. However, there was something that makes me think I will read more from this author. 2B or not 2B tells the story of London and Byron.London is attending college, and wants out of her parents house to be nearer to campus. She's on a deadline to find an apartment and the last one she's visits isn't looking good.Byron is living on his own, attending college, studying criminology. He's recently out of the army and trying to start again. When London shows up at his apartment looking for a room, he says 'No' immediately, but she's persuasive, and she's funny, in fact she's like no girl he's met before, could this work? Could they be roomies without getting involved? To be honest, I kept thinking the story may get better, that if I turned the next page there may be some more details of the characters, their lives, their back stories; sadly this wasn't so!Now, I don't set out to write a bad review, because I have a huge respect for any author; they've had the courage and fortitude to put pen to paper and put their story out there for all to see. Sometimes though, stories just fall short, they lack a certain sparkle, a lure that pulls you in, and for me, this is what I found with 2B or not 2B.The premise of the story is good, and starts out ok. London wants independence, she wants to be close to campus, she's had her heart crushed and isn't looking for a relationship. She's strong, smart and sassy, but I didn't warm to her. Her inner monologue over her past, present and future was irritating. She really didn't know what she wanted, and when she finally began to realise, it took her forever to do something about it, and when Byron laid it all out for her, she pretty much ignored what he said.Byron inherited the apartment from his grandma, he agrees to let London stay on a trial basis, he's not keen to share with a girl, but he's game to see if it'll work. He's a complex guy. He's been in the army, signing up straight from high school. He's been injured and isn't fit to return to duty, so he's changing his career path and is going to college. I don't feel Byron's story was covered. We learn tidbits of information as we go along, but so much more could've happened with his character. He was quite obviously suffering from PTSD, but this was glossed over and not explored, and when his suffering is finally revealed it happened too quickly and with very little sympathy and understanding.I think this could've been an explosive story, with good strong characters who had good back stories. I think that had it been written from both points of view it could've had more impact, just hearing from London was a bit monotonous. I'm sorry to say I didn't really enjoy 2B or not 2B, and I couldn't whole heartedly recommend it as a good read.

DNF....couldn't even make it 100 pages...immature, choppy, confusing banter....not for me.
