About book 2012, The Crystal Skull (2008)

another week, another dan brown knock off. so far it is quite entertaining. told in two time frames. modern day: the recently married kit and stella go caving to hunt for very special hidden treasure. they find it and then their real adventures start. in the late medieval period cedric owens has been given the task of protecting and hiding the blue crystal skull, an artifact that may play a very important part in protecting the world against the end times. hoping that the pace keeps up and that the two tales become more entwined. yes i am sure that some of the characters are going to be shown to be deceitful and part of a naughty secret organisation. this is pure page turning entertainment - popcorn reading to replace watching crap tv. ok this turned out to be rather disappointing. these sort of books need a mysterious nefarious organisation that is opposed to the reveal. this one doesn't just a chap who wants the skull for his own, somewhat dull reasons. the whole point of the skull is to prevent a disaster - but we are never really given an idea what the disaster might be - yeah yeah the end of the world. nor are we given any indication as to what is happening with the other skulls that are out there. it just sort of ambles to it's end. the story of cedric owen was the highlight of the book - but because of the necessity of having the modern period tale not enough is devoted to it. i will not be reading any more mc scott (or whatever variations on the name she uses) again. disappointing. Still trying to navigate Good Reads without getting lost?? I am revising comments I made-though it doesn't look like the other ones posted? I found CS while looking for another book by Manda Scott/"Dreaming the Eagle". I expected to learn more about Myan Mysticism-and I did-I also learned a bit about Nostradamus. I must admit that I am very intrigued with both subjects. The book read a bit like an extensive, historical outline, with annotations; the characters (whether invented or real) were almost incidental-in most cases. I wanted the book to be thicker, and I appreciate the extensive research, and links to other publications. It was a good read, and I enjoyed reading it; it was just enough to whet my desire to find out more.
