President James Madison didn't expect much (or anything) from the U.S. Navy but with their victories he was able to capitalize and push the American agenda forward.Why I started this book: My goal is to tackle the Navy's Recommending Reading list this year. Plus, all I remembered of this war from school was that the British burned Washington and that the battle of New Orleans happened after the peace treaty was signed.Why I finished it: Very interesting audio. Loved the information about American vs. British nautical practices and Daughan did an excellent job of putting everything in a wider world context.
