This book follows the continuation of volume 14's new story arc, wherein Ciel and Sebastian do some undercover sleuthing at a prestigious all boys school to uncover the truth behind the disappearances of some of the students, namely, Derrick Arden the son of a Duke. The private school is quite unlike any mission Ciel's been on before. There is a way of order and a hierarchy amongst the students that Ciel has to crack before any of his real work begins. He needs to garner the favour of the inner circle, and this volume relies heavily on that aspect of the story. What I enjoyed most with this volume is seeing Ciel at his best, and by best, I mean most conniving. With some of the more recent story arcs focusing on Ciel's honour and duty, it's easy for the reader to forget that Ciel is a very shrewd and pragmatic lead, and not above playing dirty to do his job. It was nice to see Ciel back in the role of master manipulator with Sebastian sort of taking the backseat for awhile. I enjoy the many facets of Ciel's character, and I felt Toboso did a fantastic job with Ciel in this book.Another thing Toboso is insanely good at with this series, is utilizing her vast cast of characters. With so many beloved characters tucked away on the back burner ready to make an appearance, Toboso has a knack for picking exactly who we want to see and when. Much to my delight with this volume, Ciel is forced to rely on Prince Soma's influence and help with gaining favour in the school's hierachy. The passionate and very excitable prince was a perfect addition to the comedic feature of the story and it is always great to see Soma and Ciel play off of each other. All in all, I thought this was a great volume for what I initially perceived as a 'ho him' sort of plot line.
