I enjoyed this book. The hero and heroine both like bondage. The historical details are in the background, a few mentions of dresses and parties and valets. I liked how they talked to each other and actually worked out their issues like adults.Negatives: There was a threat to the heroine. The hero thought he had handled it, but he had not. I did not like that part of the story and the consequences for the heroine. While I've read several contemporary novels featuring BDSM themes and concepts, I've never read those concepts in a historical romance novel before.Lavinia Kent depicts the language, manners and mores of the Regency period accurately, bringing the time alive for the reader. Her characters are drawn well and I was able to immerse myself the characters' struggles.The story is the familiar "arranged marriage turns to love" plot, but Lavinia Kent's language and storytelling capabilities take it well beyond being a typical romance novel. Her descriptions of the scenes allowed me to actually be in the room with the characters, not just reading about them.I definitely see why Lavinia Kent is a master of her craft. MASTERING THE MARQUESS was a pleasure to read and I completely recommend it!
I was meh about the bondage, but the story line was pretty good and it did keep me engaged.
